Announcing BioMADE's First Suite of 4S Projects
BioMADE is excited to announce three new projects focused on 4S: Safety, Security, Sustainability, and Social Responsibility. These first-of-their-kind projects will advance research, insights, or best practices around the 4S topical areas. The projects are:
Social Dynamics Surrounding Bioindustrial Manufacturing and Products: This project will investigate the intersection of bioindustrial manufacturing and public opinion by identifying current public awareness, perceptions, and knowledge of the technology, as well as providing survey participants the opportunity to interact with a bioindustrial manufactured product.
Members: Tandem Repeat and University of Georgia4S Insights and Priorities: This project will generate insights based on interviews of BioMADE members about how best to perceive, incorporate, and forecast how 4S principles may be integrated into biomanufacturing.
Members: Johns Hopkins University and Ginkgo BioworksProject Bluestem: This project will explore opportunities to highlight the potential for the anaerobic fermentation industry, while promoting sustainability and social responsibility through stakeholder engagement. As Bluestem Biosciences designs proprietary microbes for anaerobic environments, NCERC will serve as a pilot facility, and both parties will address public perceptions about the Midwest bioeconomy.
Members: Bluestem Biosciences and National Corn-to-Ethanol Research Center (NCERC)
“It is exciting to see three teams of dedicated BioMADE members set forth on the first set of 4S projects,” said Beth Vitalis, 4S Director. “Collectively these innovative, forward-reaching projects will assess and advance perception of social values around bioindustrial manufacturing which will be critical to set priorities for our 4S mission. In addition, the work will take great strides in building communication pathways and resources to integrate safety, security, sustainability, and social responsibility across the BioMADE ecosystem.”
