BioMADE’s Commitment to Privacy

Your privacy is important to BioMADE, the Bioindustrial Manufacturing and Development Ecosystem, (“BioMADE”), and we recognize the need for appropriate protection and management of personally identifiable information (any information by which you can be identified, such as name, address, and telephone number, referred to in this policy as “personal information”) that you share with us through our websites. For this reason, BioMADE (or “we” in this policy) has established this privacy policy to help visitors to our websites (“you”) understand how carefully we treat your personal information.  This policy applies to our principal website located at www.biomade.org and any other BioMADE-branded website that does not post a different privacy policy (each a “Site”).

IF NOT OTHERWISE ALREADY AGREED, YOUR USE OF ANY OF OUR SITES CONSTITUTES YOUR ACCEPTANCE, ON BEHALF OF YOURSELF AND YOUR ORGANIZATION IF APPLICABLE, OF THIS PRIVACY POLICY, AND OF OUR WEBSITE TERMS OF USE INTO WHICH IT IS INCORPORATED BY REFERENCE, AS REVISED FROM TIME TO TIME AND ARE LEGALLY BINDING ON YOU.  IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY OR OUR TERMS OF USE, YOU MUST NOT USE THIS SITE.

What We Collect and How We Use It

In general, you can visit the Site without telling us who you are or revealing any personal information about yourself. However, there are times when we may collect personal information directly from you or via automated technology.

From You.  Most of the personal information we collect is voluntarily provided by you when you:

  • Become a Member.  When you register as a BioMADE member, you may submit your name, username, e-mail address, mailing address, phone number or similar information; or

  • Correspond with Us.  You may choose to provide personal information when you initiate communications with BioMADE, such as by filling out a comment form, or emailing us.  Please note that email is not a private form of communication, and that BioMADE logs email traffic and contents; or

  • Sign up for our Mailing Lists. When you sign-up for our newsletter or event notifications, the types of information generally requested include your name (first and last), email address, area of interest, and other contact information.

We use this information to administer our bioindustrial manufacturing research and education membership program, improve our Sites and offerings, respond to your request or inquiry and to communicate with you regarding matters related to our program or Sites.

You can choose not to provide the requested information, and you can still visit most of the Site, but you may be unable to access certain options, functionalities, offers, and services and you may be unable to receive communications for which you have either not “opted in” or have chosen to “opt out.” You can modify your email preferences at any time by following the instructions (e.g., “Unsubscribe” link) in the BioMADE email.

From Your Browser or Device.  We also log or collect some technical information that is created and logged automatically from your use of online services.  This information includes the following:

  • IP addresses;

  • The Internet Service Provider;

  • Browser and Operating System used;

  • Page viewing histories via cookies and other automated systems, which may include the web pages and services your accessed prior to coming to our Sites and as you leave our Sites, the date and time stamps of your visit, duration of time spent on our Sites, and any links you may have clicked on our Sites, including any downloading.

This information usually does not personally identify you, but it is possible that it could at some point be linked with other personal information.  We use this information for internal analysis of trends and statistics, such as to improve our content and offerings based on user interest and to enhance a user’s experience with faster webpage loading.  We also track our email deliveries and recipient interaction to diagnose transmission errors and/or improve the effectiveness of our communication.

From Third Party Service Providers.  We used a number of third-party online platforms and services to provide information about BioMADE, including our Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn profiles.  When you engage with us through these services, we see data that those Third Party Services make available about its users.  This information is usually disclosed in aggregate form, and we will not attempt to identify you from information provided by such services in aggregated or de-identified form.  However, you should be aware that certain engagements may identify you.   For instance, if you like or leave a comment on one of our posts, the engagement will be attributed to you a way that others can see.  You should check the privacy policy of any Third Party Services you use to engage with BioMADE.

Use of Cookies.  Some of the pages of our Site utilize “cookies” so that we can better serve you with more tailored information when you return to our Site. Cookies are identifiers that are deposited on your computer to allow our Site to “remember” your preferences, surfing patterns, and behavior on your next visit to the Site. The information we collect and analyze, or have analyzed by third-party providers, through cookies is used solely to improve our service to you. You can set your browser to notify you when you are sent a cookie, giving you the chance to decide to opt-out or disable cookies in your browser.  You will still be able to visit our Sites; however, turning off cookies may affect how portions of the website function.  Disabling cookies may also affect the functionality of other websites you visit as well.

Children’s Information

BioMADE’s Sites and program are not directed towards children under 13 years of age.  If you learn that your minor child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at notices@biomade.org.

Access by Our Employees

We limit our employees’ access to your personal information to the minimum amount reasonably required to provide prompt, high quality service for the uses described in this policy.

Sharing Personal Information with Others

We do not sell personal information about you.

BioMADE utilizes certain third-party entities, vendors and subcontractors to help us provide our programs and Sites to you and to process related data, which may include data storage facilities, technical infrastructure providers, analytics providers, security vendors and payment processing companies, and we may provide your information to such third-parties, and/or permit such parties to collect the same through our Sites, as reasonably necessary to provide our programs and Sites as described in this policy.  We use Google Analytics to help us with our Sites, and information on how data is collected and processed by Google Analytics may be found at www.google.com/policies.  Some third-party companies, such as payment processing facilities, may ask you to enter your personal information directly with them and may provide some or all of that information back to us.  All third-party use of your information is governed by the privacy policy of the applicable third-party, and we disclaim any and all liability for a third-party’s actions, links, services and products.

Should we undergo a change to our corporate organization (for example, merger, spin-out or other corporate event), we may provide your relevant information to the relevant entity and reserve the right to do so.  In rare circumstances, we may need to disclose your personal information (a) in response to a subpoena or law-enforcement procedure or as we otherwise reasonably believe we are required to do so by law, regulation or governmental authority, (b) to preserve our rights or property, or (c) to protect the personal safety of someone in an emergency, and we reserve the right to do so.

We may share aggregated, non-personally identifiable information publicly, such as to demonstrate usage trends of our programs and Sites.

Third-Party Collection of Personal Information

Our Sites do not knowingly permit or facilitate any third-party to collect personal information about your online activities over time via the Sites, except to the limited extent described in this policy such as by our vendors.

Links

For your convenience, we have provided links to certain third-party websites. These links are provided for your reference and convenience only.  The use of information from those websites by the user is voluntary.  If you choose to visit a third-party’s site, please be aware that the third-party’s privacy policy, and not BioMADE’s, will govern your activities and any information you disclose while visiting the third-party’s site.

Security

BioMADE takes reasonable steps consistent with industry practice to protect your personal information from loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration or destruction.  No measure of security is foolproof, so please keep this in mind when deciding the information you choose to provide through our Sites.  BioMADE encourages you to notify us at notices@biomade.org of any security breach, vulnerability or unauthorized use of our Site should you become aware of the same.

Do Not Track Signals

Our Sites currently do not support the ability to respond to “Do Not Track” signals or other similar mechanisms that may be emitted from a user’s device.

Why did you Receive an Email from Us?

If you received a mailing from us, (a) your email address is either listed with us as someone who has expressly shared this address for the purpose of receiving information in the future (“opt-in”), or (b) you have registered or purchased or otherwise have an existing relationship with us.  Each email sent contains an easy, automated way for you to cease receiving email from us, such as an “Unsubscribe” link.  If you wish to do this, simply follow the instructions at the end of any email. If you have received unwanted, unsolicited email sent via the BioMADE system or purporting to be sent via our system, please forward a copy of that email with your comments to notices@biomade.org for review.

How to Update, Correct and Manage your Personal Information

Should you wish to update, correct or otherwise manage any personal information you have provided through the Sites, you may do so by contacting us at notices@biomade.org for assistance.  We may retain your personal information for an indefinite period, but at a minimum for the duration of you or your organization’s membership in BioMADE and for a reasonable period thereafter.

Policy Changes

BioMADE reserves the right to amend this privacy policy from time to time, and will post a revised version of the policy on this Site indicating the revision date. Any such changes will become effective fifteen (15) calendar days from our posting the amended Privacy Policy on our Site.  The changes will become effective immediately for new users of our Site.  Changes will not apply retroactively.  Your access or use of the Site and continued receipt of BioMADE emails after our posting of the revised version will constitute your acceptance of such revisions.
