Early Exposure: Biomanufacturing in the University of Texas Freshman Research Initiative from The University of Texas at Austin
The UT Austin BioMADE project has supported the development of a biomanufacturing research “stream” within UT’s Freshman Research Initiative framework, with a focus on workforce development and bringing bioprocessing skills to students, leading into internship opportunities. This also represents a unique collaboration with Austin Community College which is already heavily invested in the biomanufacturing space, showing how 2- and 4- year institutions can partner productively to create career-focused opportunities to students.
Dayton Biomanufacturing Camp for Underserved Communities from UES, Inc.
UES, Inc. aims to establish summer camps for underserved communities in Dayton, Ohio in order to support education and workforce development in bioindustrial manufacturing. The camps will take place in Summer 2023 and 2024 and will deliver much needed exposure to biotechnology and biomanufacturing to high school students in the region. The goals of the camps critically align with BioMADE’s mission and include: (1) to enhance biotechnology and biomanufacturing awareness in underserved communities in the Dayton area, (2) to educate students on related career and education opportunities, and (3) to bridge the gap between current curricula and industry-relevant skills. UES has strategically partnered with the BTC Institute on this project based on the BTC Institute’s experience in developing similar STEM programs and biotechnology courses. This webinar will provide a brief overview of the project and an update of the program development to date.
