Salt Lake City Tour
Dr. Kate Sixt, Principal Director for Biotechnology with the U.S. Department of Defense, recently joined BioMADE CEO Dr. Doug Friedman and Chief Workforce Development Officer Dr. Tom Tubon on a visit to Salt Lake City, UT. The team met with Utah state legislators, representatives from state and local economic development agencies, BioUtah, and World Trade Center Utah, as well as representatives from local high schools, community colleges, and universities. The group discussed the growing interest in expanding bioindustrial manufacturing in the Salt Lake City area, regional development around biomanufacturing, and understanding what municipalities are currently working on to help guide investment and growth strategies.
The trip culminated in a tour of member organizations Checkerspot and Technology Holdings – both of whom are expanding their footprint in Salt Lake City – and a discussion about education and workforce needs in the area. Member Cambium participated as well. Thank you to Tami Goetz of the Utah STEM Action Center for coordinating the visit and the stakeholder groups!
