BioMADE Community Capabilities Webinar Series | Testing and Evaluation: A Critical Component of Successful Bioproduct Transition from Scale to End User with Battelle
Biomanufacturing of critical molecules, for both commercial and government applications, is at each production step followed by a robust assessment of material qualities that defines its maturity levels. Test and Evaluation (T&E) of materials need to be predictive of material’s economic value, coupled with in fermentation measurements, and acutely linked to any pre-existing specifications for product acceptance (e.g., military specifications for DoD products [mil specs]). Successful products that transition to the government end user (or are of dual use in the commercial sector) need to be evaluated using agreed upon guidelines to derisk final customer acceptance of such material. Thus, T&E steps are often run by experienced, unbiased, and independent industrial partners that can bridge basic science and operational user needs. Battelle Memorial Institute, with headquarters in Columbus Ohio, has been supporting such evaluations for more than 90 years as a trusted partner to the U.S. Government. As the world’s largest independent, nonprofit research, development, testing & evaluation (RDT&E) organization, Battelle has deep expertise in developing and testing biotic and abiotic materials to support client programs that include polymers, optical materials, fibers, fuels and energetics. During this webinar, we will provide information that define our T&E capabilities, materials, and biological expertise, to support the BioMADE ecosystem. We will discuss our process designed for a robust independent validation and verification (IVV) and T&E of products available to BioMADE Member organizations that can satisfy the Department of Defense requirements for a successful transition into acquisition programs.
