Development of Biosecurity Sequence Screening Training Course for Bioengineers

Members: Signature Science, Rice University, Aclid

Project dates: 2022-2024

Through this project, Signature Science, Rice University, and Aclid partnered to develop an open-source biosafety screening software and online training course. This work promotes biosecurity best practices and empowers bioengineers to perform proactive safety screening of biological sequences.

The course leverages SeqScreen, an open-source software toolkit for identifying sequences of concern based on machine learning and manually curated databases. It provides an opportunity for trainees to gain hands-on experience performing sequence screening and interpreting the results. The course helps users keep safety as a top priority while building a strong and resilient U.S. biomanufacturing ecosystem.

BioMADE members can access a recording of a live training, case studies, data sets, training videos, and other course materials via the Member Portal.
