Modeling and Mimicking of Bioreactor Gradients to Predict Scale-Up Performance

This project focuses on developing and validating workflows to predict the performance of oil-producing fermentations at demo-scale based on laboratory experiments. To this end, we will develop and use fermentation models to predict heterogeneities in large-scale oil producing fermentations. Subsequently, we will experimentally study the impact of the predicted heterogeneities on oil-producing strains/processes and predict demo-scale strain/process performance based on laboratory experiments. We will scale up the fermentation processes to demo-scale bioreactors and compare actual and predicted scale-up performance.
