Accumulate and De-Risk for Commercial Readiness of Bioindustrial Manufacturing of Advanced Probiotics
Members: General Probiotics, Ginkgo Bioworks
As poultry consumption grows and producers are increasingly removing antibiotics, member General Probiotics has developed a recombinant antimicrobial probiotic to keep poultry healthy. This project will result in large-scale domestic manufacturing of the protein (GP1191), which will help farmers raise healthy chickens, support affordable animal protein, and significantly decrease the carbon footprint of protein production.
By enabling the rapid scale-up and commercialization of GP1191, this project aims to break through the final commercialization and regulatory barriers for this new class of biologics in agriculture. The project also includes a techno-economic analysis and life-cycle assessment of the technical feasibility, economic viability, and environmental impact of biomanufacturing GP1191. This project will result in a robust, cost-effective manufacturing process that delivers maximum numbers of viable, stable, and active cells in the final product.
